Field Training on Global Health & Infectious Disease Course for the Master’s Program in Infection Biology, Uppsala University

Date: October 15 to November 4, 2020

Venue: Online

Training Hours: 14:15 pm to 18:15 pm

 

Introduction

Technical Training Unit (TTU), icddr,b has been working for the last consecutive 10 years with the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, Uppsala University, Sweden to offer an online tailor-made two-week training course for the Master students enrolled in Infection Biology Course to provide learning experiences in resource-poor settings like Bangladesh. This time the course will be organized online considering the Covid pandemic situation from October 15 to November 4, 2020.

 

Learning objectives

End of the training a broad and deep knowledge in infection biology will prepare the students for work in research and development in areas such as diagnostics, drug development, resistance problems, vaccinations, emergency management, food production, developing country-specific diseases in animals, and humans as well as zoonosis. In the public sector, there is a need for surveillance, analysis, and follow-up of outbreaks, both nationally and from global health perspectives.

 

Course contents

The program broadly includes content such as follows:

Introduction to icddr,b its facilities and activities

Malnutrition and Infection

Health and Demographic Surveillance System

Respiratory infections

Tuberculosis

HIV

Public health perspective: community-based management, prevention 

           

Training Modality

The training will be conducted online lectures via the Zoom platform. TTU may arrange a half an hour online pre-training session on using the online platform during training. All participants must attend that session. Participants will need to have a computer with strong internet connectivity. Participants are requested to install Zoom on their computers on their own.

 

Course Duration and Timing:

The course will be conducted for 6 days. Sessions will be conducted from 14:15 PM to 18:15 PM (local time). But at times it may continue beyond this.

 

Target Participants and Selection:

Master students from the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, Uppsala University, Sweden.

 

Registration and Application

All interested participants must apply for registration through online.

 

Certification

Each participant will be awarded a certificate if they want to only after successful completion of the course.
